Standard #7: Planning for Instruction
Standard #7: Planning for Instruction
The formation of detailed lesson plans is essential for a teacher in any area! As a musical educator, my lesson plans are adaptible, capable of teaching a singular concept to a varied body of students across learning differences, learning envirnonments, and most importantly student personalities. I find that it is impossible to truly understand how a music lesson will go until you teach it, so in the development of my lesson plans special attention is given to scaffolding and differentiation. Below are a series of sample lesson plans, along with a streamlined unit plan for teaching basic music literacy.
(below) These lesson plans were all carefully developed for an audience of middle school (and some high school) musical theatre students I've had the privilege of working with. They are targeted towards students just beginning their journey of music literacy, and have served me very well in the classroom setting.
(below) This is a more comprehensive and interconnected unit plan showing how I use dynamic scaffolds in my classroom. Some students throughout this unit whenever I teach it advance quicker than others, so it is helpful to have a clearly-contained mechanism for tracking progress and observing where in the learning process any particular student is throughout the week. It also contains 2 lesson plans, the remaining plans subject to change depending on which direction the students go with the material.
